Snowy River

Snowy River Catchment Area

Rising on the eastern slopes of Mt Kosciusko in NSW, the Snowy River contributes 99% of its natural flow above the Jindabyne Dam to the  Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme. The Bendoc and Delegate Rivers rise in the Errinundra National Park, and flow northward into NSW to join the Snowy River in the Snowy Monaro High Plains. The Snowy River enters Victoria in the Alpine National Park heading south through the Snowy River National Park. The western tributaries, the Buchan River and Murrindal River, enter the system at the southern end of the Snowy River National Park near Buchan. Near Orbost, the Snowy River flows through the fertile Snowy River flood plains before entering the Snowy River estuary lowlands of Lake Corringle and the Marlo estuary, empty into the South Pacific Ocean at Marlo.
