Lake
King
Gippsland Lakes
The most easterly of the Gippsland
Lakes, Lake King joins
Lake Victoria and
receives water from the
Mitchell River
and the Mitchell River Silt Jetties,
Tambo River and
Nicholson River.
In the early European settlement of
East Gippsland,
Lake King allowed access and shipping passage from
Lakes
Entrance and the sea to the shipping ports of
Bairnsdale
via the Mitchell River and
Bruthen via the
Tambo River as well as access to the port of Sale via Lake Victoria
and Lake Wellington. Boating facilities and access to Lake King can be
found at the lakeside villages of
Paynesville,
Eagle Point
and Metung.
