Bemm
River
Far East Gippsland Catchment Area
Rising
on the southern slopes of
Errinundra National Park east of the
Brodribb River head water,
Bemm River flows
through dense warm temperate rainforest before emptying into
Sydenham Inlet
near the lakeside fishing village of
Bemm River.
A few small
cleared areas allow the only access to the upper reaches of the river
along Combienbar Road via Club Terrace. Regarded as some of the
best bream fishing waters in Australia, the lower reaches and
estuary of Bemm River is also
well considered as a waterway to explore or fish by canoe. The
Bemm River Scenic Reserve featuring the McKenzie River forest
walk, 8 km (5 min) east of
Bellbird Creek and just off Princes
Highway is well worth the
stop.
