Large volumes of traffic enter the region during peak tourist season (Summer & Easter) including caravans, trailers and boats. Slow moving agricultural machinery may be encountered using the roads in and around farming settlements. Heavy transport services local industry and travel minor roads as well as main arterial roads. School buses during school terms pick up and drop off school children in the mornings and afternoons during the week. A significant proportion of East Gippsland roads are narrow and winding and present few opportunities for safe overtaking.
