High Country & Alpine Region
Steeped in
gold mining history, the High Country and Alpine Region is also known for timber harvesting
and high country cattle grazing. Occupying approximately 30% of East
Gippsland, the High Country and Alpine Region is home to approximately 3% of
the regions population. Recreational activities such as 4 wheel driving,
fishing, horse riding, camping, exploration of historic gold mining areas and
sight seeing. The winter months attract visitors to the alpine region seeking
snow based winter activities.
