East Gippsland Rail TrailThe 96 km East Gippsland Rail Trail utilizes the disused railway reserve from Bairnsdale to Newmerella for the general public to safely travel on foot, bike or horse back experiencing some of the features East Gippsland has to offer. The trail is sealed from Bairnsdale to Nicholson, with the balance of the trail to Newmerella consisting of fine compacted gravel. Passing through the Colquhoun State Forest between Bruthen and Nowa Nowa , the East Gippsland Rail Trail links with the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail near the Mississippi Creek junction.
