Stony Creek Trestle Bridge

Built in 1916 as part of the railway extension from Bairnsdale to Orbost, the 247 metres long and 20 metres high, the Stony Creek Trestle Bridge is the largest of its kind in Victoria still standing. Constructed from locally sourced red ironbark and grey box the Stony Creek Trestle Bridge remained in service until damaged by bushfire in 1980. 1988 saw the last train cross the bridge.  From Bruthen, the East Gippsland Rail Trail passes through the Colquhoun Regional Forest and incorporates a low level crossing at the Stony Creek Trestle Bridge, a short distance before  Nowa Nowa.
