Areas of Crown land, generally large, characterised by predominantly unspoilt landscapes, and their flora, fauna and other features including wilderness areas, which are reserved, preserved and protected permanently for the benefit of the public.
With more than 550 000 ha (25%) of East Gippsland consisting of national parks, the region features fine examples of cool and warm temperate rainforest, extensive river and lake systems, sites of archaeological and historical significance, wilderness areas, native flora, fauna and natural features ranging from coastal to alpine, providing opportunities for the public to enjoy a range of recreational activities. > more.....
