Historic Area
The discovery of gold, at
the junction of Good Luck Creek and Crooked River, deep in the
mountains north of Dargo and the subsequent discoveries in
the area, the Dargo Crooked River Goldfield became one of the
three largest goldfields in the Gippsland Region during the
1860's.The inaccessibility and
isolation of the Dargo Crooked River Goldfield (Victoria's
Forgotten Goldfield) has ensured the conservation of many ruins
and sites, making it one of Victoria's most significant historical
areas.
