Pastoral activities include dairying, wool production, cattle and sheep production. The majority of East Gippsland's pastoral activity takes place in the Red Gum Plains Rivers & Lakes Region, which includes the Mitchell River Flats and Hill Country, Red Gum Plains to the west of Bairnsdale, Tambo River Flats and Hill Country south of Bruthen. Other areas of significant pastoral activity include the Snowy River Flats between Orbost and Marlo, Tambo Valley including Tambo Crossing, Ensay and Swifts Creek, High Country Plains including the districts of Omeo and Benambra, Dargo High Plains and the Dargo Valley, Buchan Valley and Cann Valley.
