East Gippsland Climate
East Gippsland's
climate is
classified as temperate. The coastal fringe of East Gippsland is
warm temperate whilst inland and the high country areas of the
region is classified as cool temperate.
The Great Dividing Range featuring the Alpine National Park, in the
western and northern sectors of the region, is the dominant landform
feature influencing weather patterns for East
Gippsland. The Strzelecki Ranges of South Gippsland also shelter some East
Gippsland Districts from moisture-laden westerly winds. Annual rainfall averaged across the region is 1025mm. East Gippsland has mild to
warm summers occasionally exceeding 35ºC, followed by relatively cooler nights. Winters are quite mild near
the coast, cooler in
the high country and cold in the alpine areas where frosts and snow
are the norm.
