Waterford

The settlement of Waterford, originally known as Mitchell Crossing, is sited at the junction of  the Wonnangatta River, the Wonnangatta Rd (Crooked River Road) and the Dargo Road, 7 km south west of Dargo. Prior to the construction of a bridge, a ferry transferred travellers and equipment heading for the Crooked River & Dargo Goldfields across the Wonnangatta River. Today, little remains to indicate the level of activity or the importance of this river crossing during the height of gold mining activities in the region.
