In the foothills of the
Victorian Alps in the Tambo Valley at the junction of the
Tambo River, Swifts Creek
and the
Great Alpine Road is the rural
East Gippsland township of
Swifts Creek. Initially settled with the discovery of gold in the
area in the early 1850's, the town turned to timber and primary
production for its existence with the decline of gold in the
1860's.
