Omeo is an historic goldmining town in the high country 120 km north of
Bairnsdale at the junction
of the
Great Alpine Road and
Omeo
Highway.
Settled along the
Livingstone Creek in the southern foothills of The Great
Dividing Range, in the heart of the high country,
Omeo is the gateway to the snowfields and the Alpine Villages of Dinner Plain and
Hotham Heights. Omeo is the centre
of an important cattle region which includes the districts of
Benambra,
Swifts Creek,
Ensay and Tambo Crossing.
