History

• The township was first settled in 1834 by the Alexander family who raised cattle in the area and who later moved to the Genoa settlement. 
• In 1907 the road was opened and the hotel built.
• In 1909 the community inherited a church and public hall.
• With the extension of the telephone line from Orbost to Cann River in 1912, the community developed considerably.
