Benambra
High Country Grazing & Timber Harvesting
180 Traditionally a grazing area, located near Omeo
in the north central
region of East Gippsland, Benambra was also known for copper and zinc
mining. With the Benambra Mine being a significant regional employer, it's
closure in 1998 had a significant effect on the prosperity of the region.
Today, the principal industries of Benambra and surrounding area include
pastoral activities including
cattle and sheep, timber and tourism. Acknowledgement of quality,
high country beef production is confirmed each year with the annual weaner
sales attracting buyers from all over Australia.
